Greetings from Gateway School

Yes it is summertime and it is hot. We have had five wonderful summer camps here at Gateway and we are looking forward to our August 2nd to August 5th Summer Camp called Box Bonanza. We are hoping you can join us to explore what can be done when we combine Gateway School, imagination, and a lot of boxes.

The beginning of the 2010 – 2011 pre-school year is just around the corner. We encourage you to complete the fall registration form attached below and/or contact the Gateway School office to arrange a tour of the facility. We can be reached at the following telephone numbers:

Heidi O’Connor 419-265-1602
Dan O’Connor 419-345-7443

We look forward to seeing you soon and, please, Stay Cool!

A Message from the Director

Spring has sprung! At least it seems that way as we soak up some sun and spend time outside while the days grow warmer and brighter. I hope all of you have a fun and enjoyable spring break with your families. At this time of the year we all need the opportunity to recharge our batteries. (I personally have a list of projects to try to tackle around the house and hope I get at least one of them done!) Have a wonderful week and we will see you back on Monday, April 12th.

– Linette

School Clothes

Springtime is mud time. Keep in mind there may be mud outside when dressing your child for school. Send your child in clothes that can get dirty. Also, sandals and Crocs make it difficult for young children to climb on the monkey bars. Please send “safe shoes” your child can change into when playing outside. Keep in mind the weather is still chilly, especially in the mornings, and may require you to send a hat and mittens with your child.

Transportation

For safety purposes, please send a written note to the school if someone other than a regular driver is to transport your child from school to home. Also, make sure that person has your child’s number. If you need more numbers, let Linette or your child’s teacher know. Thanks!

Gateway CD

We have scheduled two recording times at Happyland Recording Studio on May 1st and May 8th beginning at 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. for your child to sing with Dan and record (approx. 30 min.) this year’s Gateway songs. There will be a picnic lunch for the parents outside (weather permitting) while children are recording. Hot dogs will be provided. Please bring a dish to share and folding chairs. Dan will email specific information after vacation but please put it on your calendars now.

Arrival and Dismissal

Just a friendly reminder that when you are arriving in your car from the west of the school, please continue past the school and find a safe place to turn around and enter the parking lot from the east. Safety is our top priority! Continue to stay in your car and please pull up to the gate as teachers are helping your child in and out of the car. We appreciate your help!

Summer Birthdays

If your child has a birthday that falls in June-August, he/she can still celebrate at school during this school year. If your child is interested in celebrating at school, please call to schedule your child’s special day.

Registration for 2010-2011

If you have not registered your child for next school year, send in your form as soon as possible to reserve a place for your child. We must have the form to reserve the spot. Some morning sessions are almost full. If you need another form for fall, just ask! Registration fees are due May 1. DON’T DELAY!

Summer Homes

It’s that time of year when we are asking our families for temporary homes for our animals during the months of June, July and August. In need of homes: Pepsi (rabbit), Pepper (frog), 2 hamsters, 2 mice, 1 gerbil and hermit crabs. Please let us know if your family is interested. Thanks!

Funny Sightings and Sayings

While sharing during group time, a student had an object she was telling her friends about. One of the friends was sure he knew where the item came from as he said, “You got that at Old McDonalds.”

As children were getting ready to go outside, coats were being zipped. A child came up to Amy and said, “I have been doing this too many times and I am just too tired. Will you zip my coat?”
