Our Curriculum
The program at Gateway School is designed to foster social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and creative growth and development of the child as a whole. Goals for each individual child are established following the completion of an individualized diagnostic screening. The Gateway School Curriculum is a combination of individual goals, as well as the Ohio content standards.
The Ohio Department of Education adopted Ohio academic content standards for all grade levels. A complete set of standards can be found at the Ohio Department of Education web site at http://www.ode.state.oh.us/. Specific topics for the children at Gateway include the following:
- Social and Emotional Development: Self Esteem, Relationships, Responsibility
- Physical Development: Gross Motor, Fine Motor
- Language Arts: Phonetic Awareness, Word Recognition and Fluency, Acquisition of Vocabulary, Reading Processes, Reading Applications, Writing Processes, Writing Applications, Writing Conventions, Research, Communication
- Mathematics: Numbers, Number Sense and Operations, Measurement, Geometry and Spatial Sense, Patterns, Functions and Algebra, Data Analysis and Probability
- Science: Earth and Space Sciences, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Science and Technology, Scientific Inquiry, and Scientific Ways of Knowing.
- Social Studies: History, People in Societies, Geography, Economics, Government, Citizen Rights and Responsibilities, Social Studies Skills and Methods
